New Bern Family Law Attorney

In order to effectively address any legal matters involving your family, you need the assistance and guidance of an experienced and compassionate family law attorney. Over the years, many clients in the New Bern area have turned to me, attorney Daniel Potter at the office of Daniel E. Potter, P.C. I empathize with my clients because of my understanding of the stress legal matters can cause and  my over 16 years of experience representing clients in family law-related cases. While each case is different, of course, the anxiety and emotional toll of a marriage ending or a contest over the custody of a children is universal. Putting the fates of one's marriage, property, and/or children in the hands of the judicial system can be terrifying.

My knowledge of family law and the factors that may affect your case is used to help calm your fears, make you feel better about your options, and to set expectations for the possible outcomes of New Bern Family Law Lawyer the case. Many different types of cases fall into the category of family law, including:

  • Divorce (dissolution of marriage)
  • Child custody
  • Child support
  • Distribution of marital property
  • Paternity
  • Separation agreements
  • Prenuptial agreements
  • Property Settlements
  • Domestic violence cases

To resolve these matters, I view filing a lawsuit and having a hearing as a last resort. Though I have argued many cases in front of judges, an out-of-court course of action is often more beneficial to clients, especially if children are involved. I try and resolve cases without going to trial, but only under terms that a client will approve.

Contact a family law lawyer that has you and your family’s best interests in mind while seeking a resolution to the situation.

I offer my family law services on a flat fee basis. That means that at the initial consultation we will discuss your situation and the possible alternatives to resolving it. After getting all the facts, I can usually determine the possible routes your case may take, and can quote you a fee at that time. For example, if a case can be resolved through agreement, I will quote a single flat retainer fee. If we know that going to court is going to be necessary, my fee will be paid in stages, at the beginning of the representation, then for trial preparation, and finally for trial of the case.

Flat fee means that my attorney fees do not change based on an hourly rate, or how much I or my firm can bill a client. I have worked for firms that nickel and dime clients to death, charging for every phone call, copy, fax and stamp. A client is not charged extra for any service that is provided directly by my office or employees, such as regular postage or copies. A client's telephone or direct access to me is not restricted by charging that client each time he or she has a question about his or her case.

To discuss these and other fee-related matters, get in touch with me today. Flexible appointment times are available and I accept Visa and MasterCard as forms of payment, as well as in-state checks, money orders, and cash.
