Craven County & Pamlico County Criminal Defense Lawyer

If you have been arrested for or charged with a crime, do not face the legal system alone. Entrust your case to me, attorney Dan Potter. I have over 16 years of experience defending clients in many different types of criminal law matters. I am committed to my clients, fighting as aggressively as  New Bern Criminal Law Lawyernecessary in order to preserve your rights.

DUI / DWI
Upon being charged with Driving While Impaired (DWI) your license is automatically suspended for 30 days. I can assist you in seeking the retention of driving privileges to get to work or school. I also represent clients at trial or in negotiations with the prosecutor in the case. Penalties for DWI are getting stricter in North Carolina and throughout the country. It is important to retain an attorney as soon as possible who will protect your rights and advocate for your interests in court. I can help you handle these matters and strive to minimize the impact they have on your future.

Traffic Violations and Speeding Tickets
As minor as traffic violations seem, they can seriously affect your driving record and insurance rates. For example, a conviction for 10 miles per hour over the speed limit can result in a surcharge 45% added to your insurance premium. There are many ways to handle traffic citations that can save insurance costs and prevent revocation of driving privileges, including negotiating a reduced charge or asking the Court to continue the judgment based upon a good driving record.

I handle many types of traffic tickets for clients in North Carolina and out-of-state drivers who received a citation while passing through the area. It is possible for clients, in-state and out-of-state, to sign a waiver if the charge requires a personal appearance. This waiver allows me to appear in court on your behalf to resolve the matter without the trouble and expense of your coming to court.

I also handle all felony and misdemeanor crimes at the state level, including:

  • Drug offenses, such as possession of controlled substances and/or paraphernalia
  • Alcohol offenses, such as possession of alcoholic beverage by an underage person
  • Property crimes, such as forgery, breaking and entering, and obtaining property by false pretenses
  • Assault, communicating threats, and harassing phone calls
  • Sex offenses
  • Juvenile matters / delinquency charges

Contact a North Carolina criminal defense attorney that thoroughly understands the law and can stand up for your rights. A free consultation is offered for criminal law clients so you can understand the possibilities for your case without cost or obligation. Flexible appointment times and telephone consultations are available and I accept Visa and MasterCard as forms of payment, as well as in-state checks, money orders, and cash.
